Fall/Spring Program for Interns

September 11- December 11, 2010 / February - May 2011

       Program Description

This program focuses on process and immersion. Interns live and work alongside the Double Edge ensemble for 3 months, taking part in:

  • physical training
  • vocal and instrumental music sessions
  • design work
  • weekly Tae Kwon Do classes
  • periodic work with puppets and masks
  • individual work sessions and development of short etudes (studies)
  • performance technical production
  • local outreach
  • farm work and grounds maintenance

The shape of each internship program can vary depending on the current work of the ensemble, as interns are a vital part of each season in the company's work. Course credit is available - please inquire with us for details.

Housing

All interns are housed at Double Edge's international center for theatre collaboration, in a historic 1830s boarding house in Ashfield center. Student housing includes a shared kitchen, living room, grounds, and bedrooms. The house is a short walk from Ashfield Lake, Elmer's Cafe, the post office, a laundromat, the town library, and the Ashfield Lakehouse (a local bar/restaurant).

                                                                  Testimonials

" Double Edge Theatre's artistic vision encourages people to wake up, in every sense, with their brains and bodies and spirits. Within this company, there is a space for self-exploration and expression unequaled in any other theatre."

- Seth Bockley, Fall '03

" Next semester I'm directing a piece that is inspired by my work at Double Edge. In fact, I've taken so much of Double Edge with me, I see it in my work every day. The training has helped me develop an enormous specificity in artistic communication across the visual, writing, and theater disciplines. I just want to thank you again for helping me start this journey. It wasn't until I got to Bard that I understood how much Double Edge gave me."

- Sarah Loucks, Spring ‘09
