DESCRIPTION:Katie Burgess is a transgender performer living in South Minneapolis\, and Co-Director of Open Flame Theatre\, which creates original\, multi-disciplinary performances rooted in the queer/Trans experience. \nKatie is developing her role as The Devil in Open Flame’s upcoming performance “The Garden”\, an original queer\, surrealist opera conceived by Walken Schweigert\, which investigates white-supremacist and colonizer culture’s desire to beautify\, manage\, and control nature (which\, of course\, includes people) and reveals the horror that ensues when it does. \n  \n  \n  \n \nThis residency is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts Our Town program.
