SUMMARY:Constellations - An Outdoor Festival
DESCRIPTION:From May 27\, 2022 – June 12\, 2022\, we will hold an Outdoor Festival that highlights DE’s partnerships with Ohketeau Cultural Center\, The Hinterlands\, and Jupiter Performance Studio. \n— \nLarry Spotted Crow Mann’s Freedom In Season (Ashfield\, MA)\nCo-produced by Double Edge Theatre and Ohketeau Cultural Center \nMay 27 – 29 at 7pm \nFreedom in Season is based on Mann’s great-great-great-grandfather Samuel Vickers: Union Civil War Veteran. It is a riveting and emotional account that centers around the untold story of Nipmuc men in the Civil War\, dispossession of Nipmuc lands\, and removal of their children.\n\nBefore each performance you are welcome to experience an exhibit created with a Nipmuc expert on Indigenous history\, focusing on Mann’s family history\, in the Pavilion lobby. There will also be an after-performance gathering/talk directly following the performance led by guest respondents.\n—\n\nThe Hinterlands’ Will You Miss Me? (Detroit\, MI)\n\nJune 3 – 5 at 7pm\n\nA haunting song echoing across the holler draws a traveler into a funeral service for one of many white workers who moved from Appalachia to Detroit in the last century. But this is no normal funeral and this is no ordinary corpse. Layering traditional Appalachian songs with family lore\, pre-Christian mythology\, and more\, Will You Miss Me? pushes audiences to examine the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and to grieve the selves that have been forgotten. It is a funeral for whiteness\, a memorial for what came before its construction\, and a way of imagining what might come after.\n\nWill You Miss Me? is an original performance by The Hinterlands\, created and performed by Liza Bielby\, Livia Chesley\, Jenna Kirk\, and Richard Newman.\n\nWith support from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.\n—\n\nApollo Theater and National Black Theatre’s\nIn The Name Of The Mother Tree\nA project of Jupiter Performance Studio (Harlem\, NY)\nDeveloped in Residency at Double Edge Theatre.\nOriginally Commissioned by the Apollo Theater. Support to develop this work has been provided by Mercury Store\, The Shed\, Network of Ensemble Theaters\, Hi-Arts\, NYSCA\, and a National Theater Project artist development grant.\n\nJune 8 – 12th at 7pm\n\nIn The Name Of The Mother Tree (ITNO) is a new theatrical ceremony\, based on books by Alexis Pauline Gumbs: M Archive: After the End of the World and Dub: Finding Ceremony. INTO explores the magic\, mystery\, and medicine of a people charged with remembering their ancestors’ earth-saving rituals. Ebony Noelle Golden conceived the project\, adapted poems\, crafted additional writing\, choreographed\, and directed the project. The creative team includes music by Karma Mayet\, costumes by Mimi Plange. Ebony Webster serves as assistant choreographer.\n—\nFor more information visit our website: https://doubleedgetheatre.org/performances/constellations/\nFor tickets click here.\n\nPlease call the Box Office (413-628-0277) for assistance with tickets for Ashfield locals\, students\, seniors\, children\, and DE Alumni.
