About this performance
On November 19–21, we will share two works each evening. The first will be a work sharing of an indoor adaptation of Hidden Territories, inspired by our 2022 / 2023 Summer Spectacle, The Hidden Territories of the Bacchae, and directed by DE founder Stacy Klein. We are also proud to present the work of Acosia Red Elk, who will share original dances alongside a short film Guardian of the Land.

Hidden Territories
Dionysus was the Greek God of Ecstasy, Wine, and Theatre, also called Bacchus, who travelled through distant matriarchal lands with women claiming their Rites of duality, liberation, and joy. In our Hidden Territories version of Dionysus’ return to Thebes, a response to the story of the Bacchae by Euripides, the Bacchae (women gathered from around the world) are rematriating their languages, ritual, ceremony, and story. In this DE embodiment — 45 years later — we have brought a community of women out of their Hidden Territories to celebrate the power of their voices, songs, and ultimately, their passionate expression for freedom and a just world.
Guardian of the Land
Guardian of the Land is a short film by Oregon Public Broadcasting featuring Acosia Red Elk. Since long before Bigfoot, also known as “Sasquatch,” became a mainstream pop culture icon, Indigenous peoples have viewed the mythical creature as a revered relative. They see Bigfoot not as a monster but as a protector — a spiritual being who teaches humans to respect and care for the land. In Guardian of the Land, Emmy-nominated director LaRonn Katchia (Warm Springs/Wasco/Paiute) weaves oral histories about Bigfoot sightings and stories through the work of four leading contemporary Indigenous artists and thought leaders.
Open Training + Hidden Territories Ticket: We are currently offering a combined ticket that includes a ticket to Double Edge’s performance of Hidden Territories at 7:30 p.m. on the evening of the Open Training. More information about the Open Training can be found here.
