Ashley James (she/her) is an independent film producer and devised theatre creator originally from Mobile, AL. In 2015, she received the Princess Grace Theatre Honorarium Award to continue her work as an emerging director with Double Edge Theatre after having studied with them as an immersion student and apprentice. Later, Ashley relocated to Atlanta where she worked on theatre and film productions with Alliance Theatre, 7Stages, Dupont Productions and more. Having graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s of Art in Theatre, she returned in 2018 to pursue her Master’s in Film Production. Returning to Atlanta in the summer of 2020, Ashley worked as a Production Coordinator on studio projects like Uglies(Netflix), Harold and the Purple Crayon(Sony) & Hive(Amazon). From 2021 to 2022, she also served as an Associate Artistic Director of 7 Stages Theatre. Currently, Ashley has several projects at various stages of production including the feature length thriller, Scout, which follows a young woman isolated by her coworkers at a remote work camp in the mountains of Colorado and the experimental feature, Syrena, which sets the myth of the mermaid against the backdrop of the refugee crisis. Both projects are currently in incubation with Midnight Oil Collective under the Tsai Center for Innovation at Yale University. In addition, Ashley is in production on a short animation project with her frequent collaborator, Lebanese writer/director Mazen Khaled, and will begin post production this spring on a feature documentary that centers around Double Edge Theatre’s 40th anniversary year.
