Double Edge Theatre owns and operates its main Center in Ashfield along with five nearby properties within a one-mile radius. Historically, the organization has acquired underutilized or unwanted properties and repurposed them for public arts and cultural use. DE’s facilities include three indoor performance and training spaces, production facilities (wood and metal shops), offices, a public archive, gallery, music room, kitchen, and eight outdoor performance areas, as well as an animal barn, vegetable gardens, and hoop house. Double Edge has four additional properties: a house in the center of town which includes a guest artist studio and private housing for retreat and development; a design house; a building lot for the forthcoming Community Design Center which also houses a solar farm and apiary, and a house in town that is currently not suitable for residential use with hopes for future renovations. At present, many of these properties also provide subsidized housing for 21 low-income local cultural and farm workers from diverse backgrounds, as well as visiting educators.
In 2018, a space was shared with Ohketeau (meaning ‘to plant, to grow’ in the Nipmuc language), an autonomous Center for Indigenous Culture. In 2025, we also completed a sale/partial donation of land for No Loose Braid’s home base in Ashfield.

The Design Center will feature workshops for puppet-making, visual arts, an artisan woodshop, textiles, sewing, and costuming—all open for public use, workshops, and teaching. We're working with leading clean energy architects, engineers, and construction companies to achieve a net carbon-positive building.
